How did I get Master level in Data Management Fundamentals Exam, CDMP

Data Management

I just scored over 80 with Data Management Fundamentals Exam. This is about how did I prepared.

About Data Management Fundamentals Exam

Basically, everything you need to know about exam is here. I think cdmp is the best choice when you’re looking for Data Management certificate. If you can get a good score on CDMP exam, you have a good knowledge about Data Management.

To pass the exam, you need to read and understand DAMA-DMBOK2, which has 628 pages. DIMBOK2 covers a wide range, from definitions to best practices. I think DAMA-DMBOK2 is a good book and the best one on this topic at this moment.

Is CDMP worth it? Yes, I think so.

How did I prepare

Materials I used are

  1. DAMA-DMBOK2
    • I printed out pdf version and used highlighter pens & Post-it .
    • I wrote memos on printed papers
    • I stapled them separately by chapter
  2. Official practice questions
    • When you purchase the exam, you can access to practice questions.
    • There’s 40 questions randomly chosen from 200.
    • I did them like 30 times till I fully understand every question completely.
    • About 4 exactly same questions showed up in my real exam.
    • You can understand how deep you need to understand DAMA-DMBOK2.
    • I highly recommend you to repeat practice questions till you get full score with full understanding (not memorizing answers!)

So it was not that expensive. $59.95 + $311. I spent about 100H on my preparation.

This is what my printed DMBOK2 looks like.

How Online Exam Went & Tips

Before you click “Take the exam” button, read FAQ very carefully and check how Honorlock works. Make sure to run a system check on your PC. You need to install some extensions and change permission settings. When you click “Take the exam” button on your CDMP page, there will be

  • System checks
  • Photo shooting
  • ID check
  • Room scan

Then finally, there’s a final button to start the exam.

You may want to wait some time. When you start the exam, there’s “time left” shows on the top. Issue is that when you scroll down to proceed, you can not see “time left” as it stays at the top. So you may want to start when it’s convenient for you to calculate “time left” by yourself.

When you’re done, they simply show you the score. And that’s it.

Few minutes later, there’s an email and you can see the badges on your cdmp page, if you score over 60. My score was over 80, so I saw 3 badges, associate, practitioner and master.

Good luck

There’s still not much information nor materials on CDMP, but by reading DAMA-DMBOK2 well and doing practice questions, you can pass it.

If you wish to score over 80, then make sure that you understand DMBOK until you can explain about each topics to others.
